O estarrecedor fenômeno da sede tem rondado nosso planeta. Apesar de nosso lar espacial ser chamado Terra, bem poderia ter sido chamado Planeta Água, pois esta representa 75% de seu volume. Só o Brasil detém 12% das reservas mundiais de água doce, das quais, 72% são produzidas pela bacia amazônica.
Dizem os prognósticos que o suprimento mundial de água doce pode ser esgotado em cerca 50 anos, se for continuado o seu uso irresponsável. Hoje o ser humano consome 54% de toda a água doce disponível no mundo, número que cresce, evidentemente, com a passagem dos anos. Se for levado em conta o crescimento populacional, dentro de 25 anos estaremos usando 90% de toda a água doce, e dois terços da humanidade estarão passando sede.
No entanto, o que nos chama a atenção é a manifestada sede do transcendental, do eterno: o anseio por Deus, como claramente expressou o livro do Eclesiastes 3.11: “(Deus) pôs na mente do homem a idéia da eternidade”.
Isso explica porque a alma clama (literalmente, “grita”) por Deus. A expressão do salmo dos filhos de Core foi “A minha alma tem sede de Deus, do Deus vivo!” (Sl 42.2). Davi, o rei-poeta, anelando pela face de Deus implorava,
“Ó Deus, tu és o meu Deus; ansiosamente te busco. A minha alma tem sede de ti; a minha carne te deseja muito em uma terra seca e cansada, onde não há água” Salmos 63.1
e, ainda
“A ti estendo as minhas mãos; a minha alma , qual terra sedenta, tem sede de ti” Salmos 143.6.
Agostinho, pastor da igreja de Hipona no norte da África, declarou que nós fomos criados por Deus e para Deus, de tal maneira que só podemos achar conforto e descanso quando nEle descansarmos. O anseio por Deus está expresso na busca do que é espiritual. É uma sede insaciável, terrivelmente insaciável se procurarmos resolvê-la fora de Deus.
Essa é a necessidade do ser humano, o que implica numa responsabilidade nossa, um grave e seriíssimo cometimento.
Apesar de a ânsia da eternidade se encontrar no coração humano, apesar da fome e sede pelo transcendental, o homem está atônito: ele busca, ele pesquisa, ele anela, ele é arrastado pelos cantos de sereia ou por qualquer coisa que pareça tornar possível a concessão do segredo da felicidade e do descanso. Coitado dele! E ai de nós se falharmos em mostrar-lhe o caminho verdadeiro e vivo!
Ansioso por resolver seu problema, o poeta no Salmo 42.2 pergunta com uma ponta de dor e pressa: “quando entrarei e verei a face de Deus?” É nosso dever mostrar a esse coração sedento a face de Deus em Jesus Cristo, Seu Filho, nosso Salvador. Foi Ele quem o revelou ao dizer, “Se alguém tem sede, venha a mim e beba" (Jo 7.37). Anteriormente, já havia falado à mulher samaritana e lhe dissera,
"Se tivesses conhecido o dom de Deus e quem é o que te diz: Dá-me de beber, tu lhe terias pedido e ele te haveria dado água viva"
João 4.10.
Bom é saber que tudo isso é absolutamente de graça! De graça, mas não foi barato: custou o sacrifício de Jesus Cristo, o mesmo que continua a dizer:
“A quem tiver sede, de graça lhe darei a beber da fonte da água da vida” Apocalipse 21.6b.
